The Carnegie Club is an exclusive club which boasts some 500 members - mostly wealthy businessmen from America and Europe - who pay an annual fee of 3,000 to use the Skibo estate.

In addition to the luxurious hotel, the 7,500 acre estate is also home to a golf course and a spa. Guests can also indulge in horse riding and shooting.

The business was put up for sale after the Connecticut-based pension fund Westbrook Global Partners withdrew its majority share after five years.

Ewan McGregor, of Star Wars and Trainspotting fame, Robert Carlyle, the Full Monty star, and Sam Torrance, the golfer, have all married at Skibo.
