Officers seized alcohol and broke up large groups of young people.

The force said there were no reports of any injuries.

Chief Inspector Gill Geany said: "Officers were on patrol at Portobello beach when a disturbance broke out around 3pm on Friday, 31 July, 2020.

"Further officers attended and numerous people were moved on from the beach and quantities of alcohol were surrendered and disposed of."

She added: "A 16-year-old female youth was arrested in connection with the disturbance.

"A 17-year-old male youth was arrested and charged for being in possession of a wooden pole.

"Reports will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal and Children's Reporter.

"Many people spent the day at Portobello Beach yesterday enjoying the good weather without incident.

"Unfortunately, a small group, intent on trouble spoiled it for others. Disruptive and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and we will continue to work with local authority partners to ensure everyone is able to enjoy these spaces safely."
