Two charged over South Queensferry murder

THE family of a young man who died after he was allegedly assaulted have paid tribute to their “perfect boy”.

Jordan MacKay, 20, died at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh on Sunday evening following the alleged attack in The Loan, South Queensferry, in the early hours of that morning.

Jack Mallon, 46, from Winchburgh, West Lothian, and Charlene Wilson, 36, from Kirkliston, outside Edinburgh, appeared separately before Sheriff Paul Arthurson QC at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday.

They have been charged with murder. No plea or declaration was made and their cases were continued.

In a statement issued through police, Jordan’s family said: “Our boy Jordan William MacKay was a born and bred Kirkliston lad, a joiner to trade with huge talent.

“Jordan was and will continue to be a huge presence in all our lives forever.

“We, his mum, dad and whole family, have sat and thought of how to describe Jordan and we came up with a list of words that help us do that; handsome, hard-working, loveable, witty, charming, loyal, strong-minded but soft-hearted.

“We were not ready to lose our perfect boy.”

They added that they were mourning “the loss of our handsome, brave boy who hung on strong with all his might to the very bitter end”.

Jordan’s girlfriend Nicole McKay earlier paid tribute to her “hero” and spoke of how they were excited about spending their first holiday together in the Canary Islands.

In a message on her Facebook page, the sales assistant from South Queensferry wrote: “I still feel like I am going to wake up and it’s all going to be a nightmare.

“We had so many plans for the future together. Our first holiday was coming up to Gran Canaria, and we spoke about it every day.

“I don’t know how I am going to cope without you Jord. You always looked after me.

“You are in a better place now angel. One day we will be together again, my hero forever.

“Love you always baby, your coles.”

One friend, Sarah Scullion, said in a reply: “Thoughts are with you Nicole, still can’t quite believe it what a tragic waste xxxxxxx.”

Jordan’s family and friends have laid floral tributes, messages and a Scotland strip beneath his photo portrait in a spot close to where he was found.

Jordan, of Manse Road, Kirkliston, is understood to have been stabbed near the Scotmid store at around 1:30am.

It is thought he was on his way home from a night out.

Residents claim they had heard a fight spill out from one of the pubs on the High Street, up the Loan and into Morrison Gardens.
