It is believed his partner had returned home and found he had collapsed during an exercise session on Sunday.

An ambulance was called and paramedics tried to revive Mr Innes, but he was pronounced dead at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

The solicitor had worked at the lawyer’s practice for three decades. He was well known and respected by the legal fraternity in the north, as well as clients across the Highlands.

He was a massive Inverness Caledonian Thistle fan, and had attended the club’s home tie against Aberdeen on Friday evening.

Former procurator fiscal and solicitor David Hingston led the tributes, saying: “He was a decent man and well liked and respected by the courts, other solicitors and his clients.”
