Thieves steal Scottish pensioner's postbox from his home address and 'may have used it for a campfire'

An 80-year-old man’s postbox has been stolen from outside his house and officers fear it may have been used as firewood for a campfire found nearby.

The wooden postbox disappeared from the end of the elderly man’s drive on the south side of Loch Rannoch sometime between 6.30pm Friday October 16 and 10am the following day.

The item has been in the man’s family for about 40 years and officers are concerned it was used on a campfire which was found nearby.

Police are appealing for information from anyone who may be able to assist with the investigation.

A police spokeswoman said: “We are investigating the theft of a wooden post box (pictured) from a driveway of a property on the south side of Loch Rannoch, sometime between 6:30pm Friday 16th – 10am Saturday 16th October.

"The white wooden post box with felt roof has been at the foot of the owner’s drive for between 30-40 years. It has no potential monetary value for whoever has taken it. The possibility exists that the post box was stolen and used on a camp fire that was found nearby, however we are obviously unable to confirm this.

"If anyone has information that could assist our investigation, please call 101 or speak with any police officer. Also, information can be given anonymously through CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111. Our reference is incident 2999 of 17th October.”
