Spate of indecent exposures in Kirkcaldy may be linked to masked naked man at Rabbit Braes

Police investigating a spate of indecent exposures in Kirkcaldy have said that they may be linked with an incident last summer in which a naked man in a black mask approached two teenage girls in broad daylight.

Four incidents, including a report on Saturday, February 13, in the town’s Greenloanings, in which a man in a balaclava exposed himself to two women.

Officers are now examining the possibility that the culprit could be the same man who was filmed at the nearby Rabbit Braes on June 24 last year wearing nothing but a pair of shoes and a black mask.

Detective Inspector Christopher Dow of Glenrothes Police Station, who is leading this investigation said: “Despite extensive enquiries into each of these offences, we have not yet been able to trace who is responsible and we are appealing again for any assistance the public can provide.

“For each crime, officers have carried out enquiries in the local area and have gathered and checked a wide-range of CCTV and dash-cam footage.

"We maintain an open mind, however there is a possibility that the same man is responsible for all these crimes and we will continue our investigation until we track them down.

“We have officers dedicated to this enquiry who are currently investigating these recent reports and also reports of similar incidents in previous years to establish if there are any links.

“I fully appreciate that incidents of this nature can cause alarm within the local community, and while none of the victims have been approached by the suspect, they are still distressing to witness.

"As a result, we have stepped up patrols in the area to provide public reassurance while our investigation continues.”

DI Dow also appealed to the public to report any such crime they may witness.

He said: “This type of crime can also go unreported, with victims feeling shocked, upset or embarrassed by what has happened. However, these are serious crimes. We need to ensure that we have information on every incident that has taken place.

“If you witness an incident of this nature, please report it to us straight away so that we have the best possible chance of locating any suspects and capturing evidence as soon as possible. If you were in the area of Greenloanings, or nearby, on Saturday 13th February and may have dash-cam footage, or saw someone acting suspiciously, please contact us.

"The man in this instance was described as white, 6ft in height and of slim build, wearing a black balaclava, black long sleeved top and black trousers, which may have had a white emblem on the left thigh area.

“If someone has been the victim of this type of crime, or has any information on previous incidents then I would urge them to contact police through 101 quoting reference number CF0021470221. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
