Six arrests following anti-lockdown protest outside Scottish parliament

Six people were arrested and three people given fixed penalties by police in Edinburgh for breaches of covid restrictions after an anti-lockdown protest outside the Scottish parliament today.

Four arrests were made outside the building at Holyrood, and two in the Calton Hill area.

The arrests came after a protest by, Scotland Against Lockdown.

The group is against mandatory face masks and the ‘Scottish and UK Governments’ Coronavirus Act 2020.’

Superintendent David Robertson of Edinburgh Police Division said: “Our approach throughout the pandemic has been to engage with the public, explain the legislation and guidance, encourage compliance and use enforcement as a last resort."

"The majority of those who gathered today were compliant when spoken to.”
