Scottish climber in ‘critical’ condition after nine-hour rescue mission

The mountain rescue team said the man suffered a “significant fall” this morning.

A climber is in critical condition in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after being airlifted from a mountain in Skye this afternoon.

Rescue teams battled for hours to find the man, who badly injured near Sgurr Dubh na Da Bheinn.

Skye Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) said the victim might not have been found for “a very long time” if a separate group of climbers had not alerted them.

After several hours, they found the badly injured climber, and treated him at the scene before he was airlifted to hospital in a “critical but stable condition”.

In a post of Facebook, Skye MRT said: "Many thanks also to the climbers who did the right thing by contacting the emergency services, acting on what they heard," they said.

"Without this initial report the casualty would not have been found for a very long time."
