A teenage girl was injured as she was struck by a car in a hit and run outside a hospital.

The 15-year-old was treated at the scene for minor injuries after she was hit by the vehicle outside Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Police are appealing for information about the incident which happened at around 1.15pm on Saturday.

They are keen to trace the vehicle which has been described as possibly being maroon or purple in colour.

Pc Steve Taylor, from the Dingwall Road Policing team, said: "We are all thankful that this incident didn't lead to more serious injuries, however it is nonetheless serious given that the driver failed to stop.

"The car has been described as possibly being maroon or purple in colour and left the scene heading towards the town centre.

"I would ask anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed the incident, or anyone that may have dashcam footage, to come forward and help trace the vehicle and person involved."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 2073 of December 7.
