River Leven tragedy: Tributes pour in after death of ‘dancing angel’ girl named by police

The 12-year-old’s body was found in the water of the River Leven in Balloch last night.

Emotional tributes have been paid to a 12-year-old girl named by police, who was found dead in the River Leven in Balloch late on Sunday night.

Emergency services were called to the beauty spot near Loch Lomond at 6:45pm on Sunday, amid reports that the girl, now named as Ava Gray, had gotten into difficulty in the water.

After a three-hour-long search, involving the coastguard, paramedics, and fire crews, Ava’s body was discovered at 9:45pm.

Police said the award-winning dancer was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her dance teacher, Holly Douglas, took to social media to express her grief, writing: "My dancing angel I am heart broken.

"Words can't describe the way I feel Ava we all love you so so much you will never be forgotten at Full Out you will always be part of our team and our family.

"The world is a cruel place thinking of all the family right now , Ava I love you so so much."

Another family friend wrote on Facebook: "Aw Ava. We are all heartbroken.

"You were a beautiful wee dancer and a beautiful, kind and lovely girl.

"Sleep tight wee angel.

"Forever in our hearts and minds."

Police Scotland said Ava’s family have been informed of her death and enquiries are ongoing, but added that they are not treating the death as suspicious.
