Pupil asks to return to school after ‘attack’ ban

A TEENAGE pupil has launched a court bid to return to the school where he allegedly carried out a brutal attack on his estranged girlfriend.

Jack Brooks is alleged to have punched and kicked his classmate in the head in the school library after she brought their relationship to an end after 18 months.

Yesterday, Brooks asked a sheriff to remove a bail condition which bars him from entering the Breadalbane Community Campus in Aberfeldy, Perthshire.

Brooks asked to be allowed to go back to school after the festive period, alongside the 17-year-old girl he allegedly attacked earlier this month.

Sheriff Lindsay Foulis told Brooks that he was likely to allow him to return to school, on the condition that he does not have contact with his former girlfriend.

However, the Crown opposed the removal of the bail condition and said his return to the school campus could have a negative impact on the girl’s education.

Fiscal depute Carol Whyte said: “The Crown opposes the motion.

“Conditions were sought to protect the complainer and to provide her with reassurance that she could concentrate on her education.

“The complainer is a pupil at the same school.

“The parties were in a relationship for 18 months.

“She ended that because of increasing concerns about his behaviour.

“The incident is alleged to have taken place within the library at the school during a study period.”

Solicitor David Sinclair said Brooks and his mother had met council officials and the local authority had “no difficulty” with him returning to school.

Sheriff Foulis said: “It seems to me that it would not be beyond the normal administration and running of a school to ensure that two persons do not have contact with each other.”
