Police plea over stolen harriers

Police are appealing for witnesses after two “highly-valuable” birds were snatched from an aviary.

The female harrier hawks were stolen from an aviary in the garden of a property in Park View, Loanhead, Midlothian, between 12:30am and 9:30am yesterday.

Both have dark brown feathers, black tail feathers and white tips on their wings and tails.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: “These birds are highly valuable, but would only be of interest to a very specialist market, so we would encourage anyone who is approached about them to contact us immediately.”
