Police appeal for witnesses after ‘suspicious’ fire at Aberdeen library

The fire started in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of a fire at a community library in Aberdeen.

A member of the public called the emergency services at around 12:30am on Tuesday, May 19, after spotting the fire at Northfield Library.

The building, in Byron Square, sustained only minor damage in the blaze, which was put out by Scottish Fire and Rescue crews, and is being treated as suspicious by investigating officers.

PC Rachel MacKenzie, from Manor Park Police Station, said: "We're asking anyone who may have been in the area of the library late on Monday night, or in the early hours of Tuesday morning, to please call police on 101, quoting incident 0084 of 19 May."
