Paedophile’s early parole

A PAEDOPHILE who thought he would have to wait another six years for the chance of parole will be able to apply immediately, after a ruling by appeal judges yesterday.

John Marshall, 66, abused 16 boys and girls while a houseparent at children’s homes in Glasgow between 1974 and 1982. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2006 and ordered to serve at least 12 years.

Yesterday at the Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh, Lord Carloway, sitting with Lord Osborne, said they had to apply a new formula in assessing the minimum term, and reduced it to four-and-a-half years.
