Strain, formerly a partner and head of employment with Mullins, in Australia, was previously an employment partner and head of litigation at Biggart Baillie, and latterly headed the employment team at DLA Piper Scotland. He also served as an employment judge with the Employment Tribunal Service in Scotland until January 2014.
Additionally, Jenny Davies has joined Davidson Chalmers as a senior solicitor in the environmental, waste and renewables department. Davies, formerly at West Lothian Council, has worked with property-related issues and prior to joining the council was with Burges Salmon in Bristol and Burness Paull in Edinburgh.

Accounting firm Johnston Carmichael has appointed six new specialists to its tax team in response to significant growth in tax requirements across a range of sectors including research and development (R&D), food and drink, oil and gas, and entrepreneurial start-ups.
Kirsty Wheeler, formerly of Wood Group, has been appointed tax senior manager in Aberdeen, joining the expanding national employer solutions team led by partner Richard Britten. Jay McKinnon joins as VAT senior manager in Aberdeen, from Anderson Anderson Brown (A2B). Paul McGonigal, who has international experience after four years in Inland Revenue in New Zealand, arrives as VAT manager in Inverness. Suzanne Brownie joins as tax senior manager in Edinburgh where she brings many years of transactional and entrepreneurial tax experience from A2B, while oil and gas service sector corporate tax specialist Frazer Nicol also joins from A2B as a tax manager in the capital. Tax assistant manager R&D tax specialist Andrew McMillan is also relocating to the city from A2B in Aberdeen.

Steam-power specialist Heliex Power has announced a double appointment to enhance its global sales drive. It has recruited two new sales managers, Simos Naissidis and Juan Manuel DeBlas, as it targets further export opportunities for its technology.
Naissidis, a mechanical engineer, was previously technical executive with Cheltenham-based Spirax Sarco and an area sales engineer with Chryssafidis in Greece, and will be based in East Kilbride at Heliex’s global headquarters. Located in Kent, DeBlas will help drive Heliex’s sales in the south-east of England. He has a background in chemical engineering and held positions with Parker Hannifin and Elliott Group, where he was an assistant product manager and senior sales engineer respectively.
Chris Armitage, chief executive of Heliex Power, said: “This is an exciting period of growth for the business, with turnover rising rapidly as we enter new markets. We are now exporting as far afield as India, and have had notable successes in the UK and across Europe. These two new appointments will help us capitalise on the inherent need and demand for our steam expander systems from across global industry.”
