More than 100 inmates at HMP Barlinnie, in Glasgow, have been infected with the virus, new Scottish Prison Service (SPS) figures reveal.
Statistics also show that 719 people across the country’s 11 prisons are currently self-isolating.
In total, there are 116 confirmed cases of Covid-19 at HMP Barlinnie - around 10 per cent of the entire prison’s population.
Over the last month, 65 members of staff at the facility have also tested positive.
An SPS spokesperson said the “vast majority” of inmates who have tested positive at HMP Barlinnie are asymptomatic.
"They tested positive after a large-scale voluntary testing programme we rolled out at HMP Barlinnie after an outbreak was recorded."
The SPS confirmed on its website a "significant number of individuals are self-isolating after potential contact with a positive case".
