A man’s body has been recovered from a river after it was spotted this morning.

The body was seen in the River Ayr near Ayrshire College at about 10.50am.

Emergency services attended to assist with the incident but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesman said: "We received a report of a body in the river Ayr, near Ayrshire College, around 10.50am on Wednesday, 20 May, 2020.

"We attended alongside the fire service, ambulance service and coastguard. A man was removed from the river and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing. The death is being treated as unexplained but not believed to be suspicious."
