A MAN has been seriously injured after a car was driven at him following an altercation in the street.

Police said they were treating the incident in Whitburn last night as attempted murder.

According to the police, a group of men were heard having an altercation in the street before a black Fiat Punto was driven at a 30-year-old man.

It happened around 7pm in Glebe Road at the junction with Jubilee Road.

The victim sustained a number of serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he continues to be treated.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this time.

The Punto made off from the scene and headed towards Armadale, while a black Audi A5, which had been travelling in convoy with the car prior to the attack, drove off towards Fauldhouse.

Inquiries are ongoing to trace the occupants of both vehicles and anyone with information is asked to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Andrew McGhee from Livingston CID said: “We are treating this incident extremely seriously and are keen to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area on Saturday night.

“As part of this investigation we want to trace the driver and any passengers from within the Punto and Audi and if you can help us identify any of these individuals then please contact police immediately.
