Man rescued from yacht off Tiree arrested on international warrant

A MAN who was airlifted to safety after the yacht he was sailing ran aground off the west coast has now been arrested on an international warrant.

The 35-year-old was rescued from the vessel near the Skerryvore lighthouse, close to the Isle of Tiree, at 3.30am on Tuesday.

Two lifeboats were sent to the scene but a coastguard helicopter was required due to “extremely rough seas” in the area.

The man was uninjured and travelling alone but police said he has now been detained over an international arrest warrant.

He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
