Yesterday a Grampian Police spokesman said: “Grampian Police can confirm that a 39-year-old man has been charged in connection with a disturbance on board a plane which landed at Aberdeen airport on Wednesday 24 August 2011.

“As the matter is now the subject of live court proceedings, Grampian Police can make no further comment.”

Police added that a report was being sent to the procurator fiscal and the man was expected to attend a hearing at Aberdeen Sheriff Court at a later date.

Ms Stephenson, a psychologist, was thought to have been travelling to her home at Candacraig in Strathdon when the incident allegedly happened.
