Man charged following woman’s fatal stabbing

A MAN has been charged in connection with the death of a woman who was stabbed near a theatre in Edinburgh.

Police were called to a disturbance near the King’s Theatre in the West Tollcross area of the city shortly after 6pm on Tuesday, where a 32-year-old woman had sustained fatal stab wounds to her upper body. She died at the scene.

A second woman, who was not directly involved in the incident, was also injured but she was not believed to have been badly hurt.

Lothian and Borders Police said late last night that a 28-year-old man had been been charged in connection with the alleged murder of a woman.

He has also been charged with a number of alleged assaults that took place during the incident.

He is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court later today.

A police spokesman said: “In the meantime, officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed or heard a disturbance in the area at the time.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Lothian and Borders Police.”
