Liam Fee killers to appeal against murder convictions

A MOTHER and her civil partner who murdered her two-year-old son are appealing against their convictions.

Rachel Trelfa or Fee, 32, and partner Nyomi Fee, 29, were found guilty of murdering Liam Fee at a trial earlier this year.

They were jailed for life at the High Court in Edinburgh in June, with Trelfa ordered to serve a minimum of 23-and-a-half years and Fee at least 24 years in prison before they can be considered for release.

Both women have lodged notices of their intention to appeal against conviction.

The grounds for their appeals must be handed to the court by early September.

Liam died at his home near Glenrothes, Fife, on March 22, 2014 having suffered a ruptured heart as a result of severe blunt force trauma to his body.

The couple tried to pin the blame for the death on another  young boy but were convicted of Liam’s murder in May following a seven-week trial at the High Court in Livingston.

The pair - originally from Ryton, Tyne and Wear - were also found guilty of a catalogue of horrific cruelty against two boys in their care, including the one they blamed for Liam’s death.
