Police are appealing for witnesses after a laser pen was shone at a search and rescue helicopter flying above a village in Dumfries and Galloway.

It is thought the culprit may have been shining the laser close to Amisfield Primary School at around 11.15pm on Saturday, July 17.

A statement shared by police online said: “Circumstances are that a laser pen was shone at a search and rescue helicopter which was flying over Amisfield at the time.

“Fortunately on this occasion the pilot of the aircraft was not affected by this reckless act.

“Police request that anyone who may have information or who may have been in the area at the time please call 101 quoting crime reference number PDG0152620721 and ask to speak to PC Lyons.”
