Kelvingrove: Police drag man from river and arrest him in connection with assault

A man has been arrested in Kelvingrove Park after a lengthy standoff with police

The 43 year old broke free from police restraints and stood in the middle of the River Kelvin, Glasgow, shouting and washing his face.

After a standoff with officers on the bank, four of them waded in and pulled him ashore at around 12:30pm this afternoon.

He was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer and threatening a member of the public.

Inspector Paul Daley, of Glasgow Partick Police Station, said: "A 43-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with assaulting police officers and resisting arrest following a report that man threatened a member of the public at Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow around 12.15pm on Friday, 2 April, 2020.

“No officers were injured and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal,” he said.
