Hamilton crash: elderly man in critical condition after being hit by a car while crossing the road

A 90-year-old man is fighting for his life after being struck by a car while he was crossing the road.

The pensioner, who was using his three-wheeled walker, was crossing Leechlee Road, near Brandon Street in Hamilton when he was hit by a red Ford Kuga travelling north at about 9.25am.

The elderly man has been seriously injured in the crash and is currently being treated in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he remains in a critical condition.

The 32-year-old female driver of the Ford Kuga was not injured in the collision.

Constable Gemma Blackadder, Motherwell Road Policing Unit, said: "Although police have spoken to a number of people who assisted at the scene yesterday, we are still keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened or who may has dash-cam footage from the street at the time.

"Information can be passed to officers at Motherwell Road Policing Unit via 101. Please quote reference number 0820 of 13 November, 2020 when calling."
