Fresh police appeal to find killer in '˜targeted' shooting

Police investigating a fatal shooting in Glasgow are distributing appeal posters and leaflets translated into Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic and Romanian in an effort to find witnesses to the incident.

Euan Johnston, 26, was shot by the occupant of a neighbouring car while stopped at a traffic light in his black Audi RS4 on Shields Road at 11:40pm on 15 November.

Members of the public witnessed what police described as a “targeted attack” and some went to his aid, along with his friend, who was a passenger in the car.

The attackers sped off in a stolen Audi Q5 car, which was later found burned out in the Parkhouse area.

Mr Johnston was taken to hospital but later died.

Police said in recent days they have had few calls about the murder and said “speculation surrounding Euan Johnston’s involvement in criminality” should not make people reluctant to come forward.

Detective Superintendent Jim Kerr said: “We hope that these posters and leaflets will jog the memories of people in the local community, who may have seen Euan on the night of the shooting, or equally they may remember seeing Euan or the Audi Q5 either on the same night or in the days before the shooting took place.”

He added: “Despite previous appeals for information and widespread media coverage, we have still to trace whoever is responsible for this murder.

“In the last few days there has been few calls to the incident-room, which is slightly disappointing, although I do understand that some people may be reluctant to come forward.

“This was a targeted attack and it may be that the speculation surrounding Euan Johnston’s involvement in criminality is making people reluctant to come forward to police.

“We have support mechanisms in place should people feel vulnerable about contacting us and I would urge people to please have the confidence and report any information they have. We can’t allow these type of events to happen.”

Police discovered the car used in the murder had the fake number plate VN61 LZA and was stolen from Parklands Country Club, Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, on 16 May with its original registration SW62 NGU.

After the shooting, it sped off into Scotland Street and headed on to the Kingston Bridge.
