Family of missing walker told of body discovered in Cairngorms

The family of a hillwalker missing for more than two months have been informed after the body of a man was found in the Cairngorms.

Police Scotland said the body was discovered on Thursday night in Glen Lui, Aberdeenshire, and is being recovered.

The family of James Robertson, 61, known as Jim, from Cathcart in Glasgow, have been informed but formal identification is still to take place.

A major search operation was launched involving more than 80 volunteers from mountain rescue teams, along with specialist search officers, search and rescue dogs and a coastguard helicopter, when Mr Robertson was reported missing in March.

The experienced hillwalker was believed to have stayed in the Bob Scott Bothy in Glen Lui, about eight miles from Braemar, between Tuesday March 1 and the following day and had not been seen since.

Mountain rescue teams continued to search for Mr Robertson after his family accepted he would not be found alive.

The family have raised more than £11,600 for Braemar Mountain Rescue Team (BMRT) through an online charity donation site in memory of Mr Robertson.

Appealing for donations, his daughter Lynn Robertson wrote: “We are now hoping that BMRT can recover our dad’s body and bring him home to us.

“Once we have him home, we can say our final goodbyes and return our dearest dad to the hills, where he belongs.

“We only wish our dad could see just how much has been done for him. He would be so amazed and deeply moved.”
