Edinburgh expansion on cards for law firm Kennedys

International law firm Kennedys is eyeing further growth in Edinburgh after moving to larger offices on the city's canalside.

The practice, which called off a planned merger with Simpson & Marwick in 2013, set up shop in Edinburgh and Glasgow at the start of last year.

It said the move from Melville Street to its new base at the Edinburgh Quay development would provide space to meet its “ambitious” growth plans.

Senior partner Nick Thomas said: “We made no secret of our desire to be in Scotland and we are delighted with the success of our first 18 months. The move to this new office is a real statement of the confidence we have for the further growth of the firm in Scotland.

“Our clients have commented favourably on the service we can now offer them throughout the UK. We hope, through a combination of organic growth and lateral hires, to double our headcount over the next year and the new office provides us with the space to achieve that.”

Kennedys Scotland currently has eight staff and is led by partners Rory Jackson, formerly of McClure Naismith, and Frank Gill, who was previously principal at Francis Gill & Co. Its Glasgow office is on Bothwell Street.

Simpson & Marwick joined forces with global legal giant Clyde & Co in September last year.
