Drug linked to man’s death in Highlands

AN ecstasy-type drug known as Einsteins is being linked to the death of a 20-year-old man in Inverness.

Police and ambulance staff were called to a house in the city on Thursday night. The man was taken to the city’s Raigmore Hospital but died a few hours later. A second man was last night in a serious condition in hospital.

Northern Constabulary is investigating and say a possible line of inquiry is that the death may be drugs related.

The drug thought to be involved is blue/green in colour and has the letters E=MC2 inscribed on it, and is sometimes referred to as Einsteins.

A force spokesman said officers are working closely with colleagues in NHS Highland regarding the incident. A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Health official issued an appeal about the dangers of using illicit drugs.

NHS Highland harm reduction coordinator John Glenday said: “Taking illicit drugs is extremely hazardous. We would urge drug users if they are unable to abstain from drugs to follow harm reduction advice to reduce the risk.”
