Doorstep murder bid victim, 55, stable

Police are stepping up investigations following the attempted murder of a 55-year-old man in the doorway of his Edinburgh home on Saturday.

The incident happened at about 1.45am in Ravenscroft Street. Officers have stressed they believe it was an isolated incident with “no wider threat to the general public”.

Investigations are taking place in the Gilmerton area and CCTV footage is being examined.

The man suffered a serious injury and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment, where he remains in a stable condition.

Detective Sergeant Steven Gray of Gayfield CID said: “Extensive inquiries are ongoing into the attempted murder and officers are currently carrying out inquiries in the local area, and checking CCTV footage to gather more information.

“I would urge anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident and saw anything suspicious to contact us as soon as possible.

“This is believed to have been an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the general public.”
