Boxing Day ‘over limit’ motorist passed her test on Christmas Eve

A YOUNG woman who was caught drink-driving on Boxing Day had passed her driving test just two days before, on Christmas Eve, police said.

The 23-year-old was caught during the third week of the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland’s (Acpos) festive drink-drive campaign.

She was spotted driving “erratically” by officers near Newtonhill, Aberdeenshire, at around 1:30am on Monday, and was found to be one-and-a-half times over the legal limit.

Acpos said during the third week of its campaign, police had detected 107 offenders who were driving over the legal alcohol limit, while nine were caught under the influence of drugs.

Meanwhile, a 46-year-old man who was found slumped over his steering wheel after a collision near Balmuir Bridge, West Lothian, on Christmas Eve and who refused to give a breath sample, was found by police to be wanted by Interpol.
