Construction workers dig deep for Young Enterprise Scotland

Kind-hearted staff from a leading construction company took time out of their working day to help young people learn more about the benefits of practical enterprise experience.

A group of five staff from Morrison Construction volunteered at Young Enterprise Scotland’s social enterprise base at Rouken Glen as part of their community benefits programme – a scheme which encourages colleagues to volunteer at local charities and organisations.

The workers from Morrison Construction assisted the YES Works team in the creation of a new builder’s yard area, which will help the social enterprise to grow and develop its service.

YES Works, founded by Young Enterprise Scotland, aims to provide sustainable employment opportunities and training to young people from less advantaged backgrounds.

Caitlin Quinn, Morrison Construction assistant community skills manager, said: “We’re very proud to have been involved in helping YES Works to enhance the area it uses for practical, enterprise-led activities. YES Works is just one of many local initiatives we work with on a voluntary basis.

“This project was a fantastic opportunity for us to give something back to the communities we work in. It was very rewarding to see the positive impact the volunteer day had on the YES Works facility. Our team worked hard and had a great time.”

Colin Higgins, manager of YES Works, said: “Collaboration is one of the core YES values and what has been achieved thanks to Morrison Construction demonstrates just how important a role it plays in enterprise.

“We really appreciate all the work the team carried out – it will really benefit the young people working with us. We had a very productive and enjoyable day with the team.”

YES Works, established in 2016, is an award-winning social enterprise that delivers landscape gardening services to local authorities, housing associations, business as well as private homes in the West of Scotland.
