Clive Dennier remembered with achievement award

A popular Highland reporter who died after a fall while hillwalking is to be honoured with a lifetime achievement award.

The family of Clive Dennier, who worked for various newspapers in the north, including being former news editor for the Highland edition of the Press and Journal, will be presented the Barron Trophy at the Highlands and Islands Media Awards in February.

The trophy is the annual award for lifetime achievement in journalism in the Highlands and Islands.

Mr Dennier, who was working for the Strathspey and Badenoch Herald at the time of his death, went missing in March after going hillwalking in Kinloch Hourn.

His body was later recovered from a river and it was discovered he had suffered head injuries in a fall.

Gordon Fyfe, chairman of the Highlands and Islands Media Awards Judging Panel, said: “The Highland journalistic family lost one of its most popular members with the sudden and untimely death of Clive, who was an excellent newspaper reporter, being reliable fair and accurate at all times.

“He was also a very sociable person, who was a very good friend to many people in the newspaper industry.

“The Barron Trophy recognises lifetime achievement in journalism in the Highlands and Islands and we are unanimously of the view that Clive’s outstanding contribution to journalism in this distinctive corner of Scotland deserves our recognition. Clive will be sorely missed.”

The Highlands and Islands Press Ball and Media Awards is being held at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness on 7 February.
