Classic Scots writer enters digital age

HE earned his fame inventing a classic tale of murder and Highland treachery featuring Clyde puffer The Vital Spark and her crafty Gaelic skipper Para Handy.

But now the novel generally considered Neil Munro’s greatest work has been brought to life for the digital generation for the first time.

An e-book of The New Road has been produced by Edinburgh Napier University students as part of their MSc Publishing course. Free copies of a new edition of the novel, meanwhile, will also be distributed across Scotland.

The books were officially launched at Edinburgh Central Library at an event attended by Munro’s granddaughter Finella Wilson, and showcasing the Argyll-born writer’s typewriter.

Members of the Clan Campbell Education Foundation also travelled from America to attend.
