Angler dies after falling down Highland gorge

A 68-year-old angler has died after falling down a gorge in Sutherland.

Police were called at about 10:50pm on Monday night following a report of the man falling near the Oykel Bailey Bridge, a few miles west of Rosehall.

Coastguard rescue teams from Achiltibuie, Dornoch and Inverness were sent to the scene along with a search and rescue helicopter.

However, a police spokesperson said: "Emergency services attended and a 68-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
