Many of the most photogenic walks in Scotland take in the banks of lochs, with stunning views over mountains, ruined castles and forests – all reflected perfectly in the water on a still day.
Here we take in 13 of the best lochside walks in the country, from 30 minute wanders to epic treks.
1. Loch Ness
There are plenty of lochside walks for monster hunting visitors to Loch Ness, but perhaps the most picturesque is around the photogenic Castle Urquhart.
2. Loch Katrine
There are plenty of trails around Loch Katrine, in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, but the best option is to climb the nearby hill of Ben A'an for incredible views over the water.
3. Loch Tay
Loch Tay, just two hours north of both Glasgow and Edinburgh, is perfect for gentle bankside walks. The village of Killin is a good base to explore the loch and visit the Falls of Dochart.
4. Loch Shiel
An amazing destination for walkers in its own right, a hike around the north of Loch Shiel can also take in the Glenfinnan Viaduct, of Harry Potter fame.
