9. Have a monstrously fun time in the capital of the Highlands
Inverness is the perfect city to explore on a long weekend away. If the sun shines you can go monster hunting on nearby Loch Ness, visit picturesque Urquhart Castle and explore the Highland countryside. Otherwise, the city has plenty of indoor fun on offer, including an art gallery, museum, cathedral and castle, the Tomatin Distillery Centre and a wealth of bars and restaurants. If you're looking for a hotel with a pool, both the Kingsmill Hotel and the Best Western Inverness Palace Hotel and Spa are well-located options. Photo: Canva/Getty Images

10. Savour a gastronomic break in the Capital
There's enough attractions in Edinburgh to keep you busy for endless weekends, but for foodies it's a great destination to enjoy one (or more) Michelin-starred restaurants. The Capital is home to no less than four of Scotland's ten restaurants that currently hold the ultimate gastronomic accolade. Pick from Condita on Salisbury Place, The Kitchin on Commercial Street, Number One at Balmoral Hotel, or Restaurant Martin Wishart in Leith. Book early, skip a couple of meals beforehand, and enjoy the best food Scotland has to offer. Photo: Canva/Getty Images
