5. Have an adventure in East Lothian
There's no shortage of adventures to be had in East Lothian - whatever the weather. Stay in the resort town of North Berwick and you'll have the best pubs and restaurants on your doorstep, along with lovely walks up Berwick Law or along the area's many sandy beaches. If the weather doesn't behave, there's the nearby National Museum of Flight with its huge collection of aircraft, including the chance to board Concorde. For history buffs a visit to Tantallon Castle and Dirleton Castle are a must. Photo: Canva/Getty Images

6. Get pampered in the Borders
In the heart of the beautiful Borders countryside, near the RIver Tweed, the Peebles Hydro Hotels offers everything you need for a weekend of pampering that the weather can't spoil. Spa facilities includes a lounge, indoor pool, steam room, sauna body treatments, hairstyling, pedicures, manicures, facial treatments, a jacuzzi, massage, and a fitness center. If you're still looking for things to do on a rainy day you can learn about one of Scotland's most famous authors at the John Buchan Story Museum in Peebles. Meanwhile, if the sun comes out there's plenty of walking and a nearby Go Ape centre where you can enjoy ziplining and aerial adventures through the forest. Photo: www.booking.com

7. Soak up the culture in Glasgow's largest city
Now that venues have opened up following over 18 months of lockdowns and social distancing, a weekend in Glasgow is the perfect way to catch up with your (indoor) culture. Catch a play at the King's Theatre, Theatre Royal or Tron; enjoy a gig at King Tut's, Stereo, Barrowlands or the OVO Hydro; take in some classical music at the City Halls or Royal Concert Hall; and don't forget to pop into one of the city's free museums - including Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, the Riverside Museum and the Hunterian. With a wide range of accomodation available there's a short break to suit evey budget. Photo: Canva/Getty Images

8. Take the high road to Loch Lomond
One of Scotland's most beautiful destinations, the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park is obviously at its best when the weather stays dry, but it can make for a great weekend away even when skies are grey. There are a myriad of luxury hotels and restaurants around the loch where you can treat yourself. Meanwhile there are shops at Loch Lomond Shores to enjoy, while the nearby Loch Lomond Bird of Prey Centre and Loch Lomond SEALIFE Aquarium will keep you occupied for a couple of days.
