Scran season 10: How 1940s fashion and a daring raid inspired comedian Al Murray’s whisky
A new episode of our podcast Scran is now live.
On this episode of Scran, I chat to comedian, historian and podcaster Al Murray about a newly released whisky, which has been inspired by one of the boldest raids during World War Two.
The whisky is Vat 01 'Operation Chariot', the first spirits release from AVRE Industries, the label Al Murray co-founded with historian James Holland.
It is inspired by the St Nazaire Raid, in which British forces attacked the dry dock at St Nazaire in occupied France in March 1942, and which has been described as one of the most daring and successful Commando raids of the war.

Al talks about the commandos involved in the raid, their links to Scotland and how this inspired the whisky, a blended malt of which there are only 265 bottles available, one for each commando who took part in the raid.
