The firm, which has eight UK-based and two international offices, has appointed Robert Bisset to spearhead the office in the centre of Glasgow. Bisset has worked for a number of leading UK consultancies, including Fairhurst where he spent the last six years as director of its buildings team in Glasgow. His responsibilities have included business development, financial control, staff resourcing and technical delivery of a portfolio of projects encompassing sectors including education, retail, residential, marine and petro-chemical.

Macdonald Hotels and Resorts has hired hospitality HR veteran Liz Phillips as its new director of people. She joins on 1 September, bringing more than 20 years’ experience leading large-staff hospitality businesses. Currently completing an assignment with international food brand Krispy Kreme, Phillips was most recently HR director at pub group Mitchells & Butlers, whose brands include All Bar One. She is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development and a visiting Fellow of Birmingham City Universality. Macdonald, which operates 55 hotels and resorts across the UK, Ireland, Spain and Portugal, recently announced the investment of £1.25 million over a three-year period in a new cloud-based HR system which it said better supports the business.

Law firm Anderson Strathern has appointed Coral Riddell as a consultant in its expanding construction team. Her arrival follows on from the construction expertise brought to the firm by Alistair Dean whose niche practice, ADLP, was acquired at the start of the year. Riddell’s appointment brings specialist construction and engineering dispute resolution experience in arbitration, adjudication, mediation and litigation. She previously worked in this specialist field with Dundas & Wilson, Maclay Murray & Spens and Pinsent Masons. Her most recent role was as head of the professional practice team at the Law Society of Scotland, where she provided strategic oversight on complex ethical and business matters for the Scottish legal profession.
