Highland firm to build eco homes in flat-pack venture

A HIGHLAND building firm will import pre-fabricated eco-homes to Scotland from Germany after signing a deal with a manufacturer.

Aviemore-based Allan Munro Construction (AMC) has struck a partnership with Rheinau-based flat-pack house maker WeberHaus to bring super-insulated family homes to the north of Scotland.

AMC has been selected as the German firm’s sole sales and building partner north of the Border. Cameron Munro, managing director, said: “WeberHaus is one of the biggest home manufacturers in Germany and has built over 30,000 houses across Europe.

“We’ve already had strong interest from potential purchasers in Aberdeen, and we believe these homes will be very appealing to families across the North-east and the highlands and islands – where the Scottish climate and rising fuel bills means that high quality, super-insulated houses make good sense.”

AMC said it has developed three WeberHaus plans designed specifically for the Scottish climate. The houses are built in a factory in Germany to “stringent criteria” before being shipped to the UK.

Munro said: “The houses come complete with triple glazing and options for traditional heating and power or on-site low carbon generation, using geothermal energy or biomass boilers for example.

“It can take as little as four days for WeberHaus builders to erect the walls and roof. Our role is to ensure the site is perfectly prepared and carry out all internal work until the home is 100 per cent complete.

“Like us, WeberHaus is a family-owned business, and although we are very different in size, we have a shared commitment to quality and service,” Munro added.
