China will suit Kinloch Anderson

A SCOTTISH fashion company that supplies kilts and other Highland apparel to the Royal Family is preparing to open its first shop in China.

Edinburgh-based Kinloch Anderson already sells its clothing in Japan, Korea and North America.

Now the family-owned firm, which started life selling kilts and sporrans to noblemen and the military in 1868, is tackling China’s booming market for men’s fashion. Its first outlet in Shanghai is due to open soon and there are plans for at least ten shops in total.

The company admits that demand for kilts will probably be small, so instead it is going to take on established Italian brands in the market for men’s designer suits.
