I’m deputy group live editor in the SEO and Trends team at National World and work with our team of talented reporters who write for news titles across the United Kingdom including The Scotsman, Edinburgh Evening News, Yorkshire Post, Sunderland Echo, Sheffield Star and Portsmouth News. I have been with the company for more than 16 years and my first job in journalism was in 2006 when I joined The Derry Journal Newspapers Group in Northern Ireland where I covered news, lifestyle and sport for its Sunday edition, The Sunday Journal. Several years later I was elevated into a senior news reporter role with The Derry Journal where my work mainly focused on hard and breaking news. I was also The Derry Journal’s film critic for several years during which time I interviewed movie heavyweights such as Sir. Ian McKellan; Brendan Gleeson; Danny Boyle; Paul Greengrass; Sam Neill and Ray Winstone. In 2015 I made the move from print to focusing exclusively on digital journalism for the company's Northern Ireland publishing unit, which included the world's oldest continuously published daily English language newspaper, The Belfast News Letter. I became the first Social Media Editor to be appointed in Northern Ireland, a position I held for three years before becoming the lead on digital. In 2019 I won the JPI Media Digital Journalist of the Year award at a ceremony at the iconic home of BAFTA in Piccadilly, London. Recognising I needed a challenge in 2021, I was appointed Engagement Editor for National World’s seven Metro World titles and several months later I became deputy group live editor which is where I have remained since August 2022. When I am not working, I am busy consuming the daily news agenda online, especially on Twitter where I enjoy discussing and analysing politics, current affairs, film, music and all things Formula 1.
