The new comedy film will be shooting around Inverness until December.

Hollywood star Jeff Daniels has been spotted filming a new comedy movie in Scotland, with work on the production expected to continue until December.

The Dumb and Dumber actor is currently shooting The Reception around the St Laurence Centre in Forres.

Production vehicles, trailers and equipment have taken over the former church and nearby streets, with road restrictions in place across High Street and Gordon Street in the Moray town until Thursday, November 5.

The film will also shoot around Inverness where, earlier this year, Two 10 Casting put out an open call for aspiring local actors. A casting event for extras was held in the city last month, and filming is expected to continue in the area until December.

Directed by actress and producer Trudie Styler, the wife of musician Sting, the new film will follow a wedding at an estate in Scotland which is “spiralling delightfully out of control”.

Daniels, a two-time Emmy Award winner, will star in the ensemble comedy alongside Guy Pearce, Dominic West, John Cleese, Rachael Stirling and more.

What is Jeff Daniels filming in Scotland?

Jeff Daniels is currently in Scotland filming The Reception, a new comedy movie from director Trudie Styler.

The film’s full synopsis is as follows: “At a grand Scottish estate, a wedding party proceeds despite the unfortunate absence of the bride and groom. Felix has abandoned Victoria at the altar, leaving their parents, family and friends to navigate a lavish but increasingly chaotic reception. What begins as an attempt to keep up appearances spirals into a day of calamity, hilarity, and unexpected connections, as the in-laws, staff, and guests confront their own relationships amidst the fallout.”

Rumoured Scottish filming locations for The Reception

As well as Forres, where cast and crews have been seen shooting, The Reception will shoot in a castle near close to Loch Ness by Deadline.

While unconfirmed, so far, based on images from director Styler’s social media it appears the film will shoot at Aldourie Castle, around five miles from Inverness.

Film crews have already taken over the estate for Kenneth Branagh’s new Paramount+ series Laird earlier this year, with other productions filming in the Highlands including Netflix’s hit period drama Bridgerton and Chad Stahelski’s Highlander reboot starring Henry Cavill.
