New York, London, and the farthest reaches of the galaxy are probably what first comes to mind when you think of Marvel filming locations. However, there are a few that are much closer to home than you might think. Scotland has a long history of being popular for filming locations, with big titles like Outlander, Game of Thrones, and more being filmed in our cities and rolling countryside.
You’ll most likely have been to many of these locations, perhaps without realising, especially if you’ve spent any time in Edinburgh. Here are ten Marvel filming locations spanning three films, all located in Scotland.
9. St Abbs, Avengers: Endgame
Leaving Infinity War behind, we move ahead now to Avengers: Endgame. After five years apart, Smart Hulk and Rocket head to New Asgard to track down Thor. This is actually the modern day Tonsberg, Norway of the MCU - but it's not filmed in Culross. Instead, the Marvel team came to St Abbs in the Scottish Borders. They first meet Valkyrie on the pier, driving up towards the town. This is a bit of clever cinema perspective, as the pier actually doesn't lead anyway in real life. The truck they're in would have had to drive out of the sea in order for them to actually approach from this direction, but it does offer a good view of the fishing village, with some buildings removed and altered using CGI for the film. 10. St Abbs Head, Avengers: Endgame
At the end of Endgame, we get another look at St Abbs, this time from St Abbs Head. Thor and Valkyrie discuss the future of Asgard while looking down on the town. You can see in this comparison that the buildings have been altered in the movie image (top) and mountains have also been added that aren't there in real life (bottom). Photo: Disney / Marvel
