A spokeswoman for Inverness Outlanders said: “We got in touch with Diana Gabaldon to tell her about our idea . She gave us her blessing and also permission to use some quotes from the Outlander book series on the map.

“We can’t thank Diana Gabaldon enough for all the support she gives to Outlander fans.”

Inverness Outlanders said the idea of such a map was first raised more than 20 years ago.

Locations on the map include Beauly Priory, Corrimony Chambered Cairn, Tomnahurich Hill, Ness Walk and the village of Balnain, which each site referenced to the book they appear in.

Historic spots linked to the Jacobite story are also included, such as Leakey’s Bookshop in Inverness, which was used as a temporary hospital during the 1745 Uprising.

The map has now been produced in conjunction with Scottish Provincial Press with an audio version also to be created.
