Shopping habits: When do Scots break the bank?

Hitting the high street with friends and family could well be a thing of the past as a new study has revealed that Scots spend most when shopping with company.

The study by TopCashback.co.uk found that more than half of us admit to spending more money when we’re accompanied by others, compared to when alone.

It was found that men and women’s shopping habits change when they are out with their significant others.

7 per cent of men said they spend more when shopping with their wife or girlfriend while 46 per cent of women said they are most sensible with their money when with their partners.

Shopping with children is when the most money is spent as across the country, a quarter of residents admitted to being more generous with their money when out with their kids. Mums are more likely to give in to their children’s demands, going over budget by 30 per cent compared to only 22 per cent of dads who spend 21 per cent more than planned.

Women are also guilty of spending more when on a shopping trip with their friends, more than a quarter admitted to shelling out 30 per cent more when on shopping with girlfriends.

Shopping with mum and dad seems to be the best way to save money as 22 per cent of Scots say they spend the least when they’re with their parents, reducing their spending by 31 per cent.
