Hibs v Gretna game postponed after torrential rain

Hibs SPL clash against Gretna fell victim to the weather today with the waterlogged Easter Road pitch declared unplayable.

Ten ground staff worked desperately from early morning to clear standing water but were forced to call in a local Grade One referee to conduct an inspection at 10.45.

Given the state of the pitch, the forecast of further heavy rain during the day and to avoid an unnecessary journey for Gretna fans, the official was left with no option but to call the match off.

A new date for the fixture has yet to be confirmed.
