Scotland’s landscape transforms in the winter months, snow-capped munros offer the perfect backdrop to frozen lochs and frost covered glens; at its most raw, it can be the optimum time to enjoy the scenery.

Finding the right balance between comfort and a sense of outdoor adventure can be hard in the winter months but with these glamping ideas you’ll have a fun trip, no matter the weather.

TREE HOWF TREEHOUSE

Who didn’t want to stay in a treehouse as kid? Well now you can with this beautifully converted hut that surrounds and ancient Ash tree and offers a 360 degree view of the Ochil Hills and beautiful Perthshire countryside.

Warm yourself by the wood burning stove while enjoying food prepared in the small kitchen before retiring to the kingsize bed to gaze at the stars through the large overhead window.

Its central location means it is the perfect place to start out from to visit Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument, Edinburgh and Glasgow or head north to “enjoy the Highlands, Scotland’s National Parks or the mountains and lochs of the Trossachs”.

These unique little golf ball looking domes are a great way to enjoy warm, comfortable and fun glamping adventures all year round. Fully insulated each dome is additionally heated by a log burner and can comfortably sleep up to four people.

Each cabin comes with its own kitchenette with shower and toilet facilities available nearby.

HIGHSEAS HOBBITS

There are few places that look as comfortable the hobbit homes from the Lord of the Rings trilogy and now you can experience your own little piece of Hobbiton with a stay in these wonderfully unique little glamping huts.

Based on a farm near Fraserburgh in north east Scotland, the insulated huts offer the perfect way to stay warm at night and a great base for exploring Scotland’s rugged coastline, with stunning views over the Moray Firth, during the winter months.

The yurt which is located at Woodlands Rest, in the heart of the Aldroughty Woods in Moray, is possibly the most palatial of all of the glamping pods we’ve come across, looking more like a five star hotel suite than a large tent, you’ll love how spacious and comfortable it is.

A wood-burning stove, and candles and low-voltage lights, help add to cosy feeling perfect for escaping the winter weather outside.

The yurt, which is close to the city of Elgin and the heart of whisky distilling country comes with access to a shower and an eco-friendly compost/chemical toilet.

THE OTTER ECO BOTHY

(What: Eco Bothy, Where: Parton, Castle Douglas, Price: £395 for three nights)

The delightfully named Otter is a fun little Eco Bothy with stunning views across Loch Ken that sleeps two. The owners say the bothy is the perfect mix of environmentally friendly hut and luxurious romantic get away.

The Otter comes fully furnished, has its own hot tub, its own private lochan and is powered by 12 volt solar panels and has a fully fitted kitchen. The building is insulated with sheep’s wool and has a living sedam grass roof.

During the day you’ll have plenty of opportunity to enjoy the local wildlife, with red kites, red squirrels and even otters. The site is located on the edge of the Galloway Dark Skies Park making it perfect for sitting back in the hot tub with a glass of wine and enjoying a little bit of stargazing.
