Resident rooster at Andy Murray's hotel is killed

A rooster that was made a permanent resident at Andy Murray's luxury hotel has been killed by a fox.

The feathered guest, called Colin, was adopted by staff at Cromlix Hotel, which is owned by the Wimbledon and Olympic champion.

The bird had been a regular visitor to the hotel’s gardens and tennis court, and had become popular with guests and staff.

In August, management at Cromlix, which is near Andy’s hometown of Dunblane, decided to make him a permanent fixture.

Colin was given his own coop on the estate and even had his own Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages, where he updated followers on his activities. The hotel also brought in three hens as “wives” to keep him company.

However, it has now been revealed he died this week when he was captured by a fox after wandering away from his coop.

The hotel posted a tribute to the bird on his Facebook page which read: “It is with great sadness that we share that unfortunately Colin didn’t return to the coop after a marital argument with the wives and we unfortunately lost him to a fox.

“He is now enjoying new adventures in his very own herb garden with free access to the best pastries in the world too.

“Like a true celebrity rooster, he arrived out of nowhere, stole our hearts, lived intensely and went too soon.

“Please let us know if you would still like to hear from his wives we would be delighted to keep you entertained with their activities and they are of course, his dear widows.”

Colin fans took to Facebook to share their sadness at his demise.

Corinne MacDonald said: “Aw that’s sad....enjoyed his daily adventures. Xxx RIP Colin.”

Francesca Anania wrote: “Oh no Colin. we lost our little roo a few weeks ago.”

Anona Brown added: “Need updates. Will miss Colin.”

Maxine Scott said: “RIP Colin The Rooster at Cromlix.”

The rooster’s celebrity status meant he rivalled tennis ace Andy’s dog, Maggie May, who also has her own Twitter page.

The pet terrier also became a published author earlier this year when it published a self-help book called How To Look After Your Human.

The newly crowned world number one bought the 15-bedroom hotel, which sits in 34 acres of private grounds, for £1.8 million in 2013.

He held his wedding reception at the hotel in April 2015 after getting married to wife Kim at Dunblane cathedral.

In 2010, before he acquired the property, the sportsman’s elder brother and another tennis star, Jamie Murray, married his Colombian girlfriend, Alejandra Gutierrez, at the property.
